In July, the RocPro3D team attended the 8ᵗʰ Interdisciplinary Workshop on Rockfall Protection (ROCEXS 2026) in Grenoble, France.
As well as being one of the event’s gold sponsors, the team had the opportunity to present two contributions (proceedings are available at https://hal.science/view/index/docid/5708070).
Transition from 2D to 3D rockfall modelling: feedback from engineering users

Efficient 3D rockfall simulation tools (e.g. hybrid-lumped-mass or rigid-body based) have become available. Engineering professionals who have transitioned from 2D to 3D modelling often encounter various issues and questions. This poster details four such issues and concludes with practical advice regarding RAM and mesh optimisations and the transition from 3D to 2D models when necessary, which can result in inconsistent 2D results. This last point may also have practical implications for interpreting in situ or laboratory drop tests.
Reliability-based design of rockfall barriers: integration of RockStop in RocPro3D for target residual risk

Reliability-based design enables the design of barriers with a target failure probability (and thus residual risk), which makes the design cost-effective. RockStop reliability calculations provide an assessment and quantification of the failure potential of existing barriers in the context of ageing and degradation phenomena. RokStop makes complex mathematical calculations accessible to practitioners and allows them to easily explore strategies for designing rockfall barriers thanks to its full integration in RocPro3D.
